After more than 20 years of experience and knowledge in the fishing sector, started the project Mariscos Don Cigala, with the aim of working in the marketing, distribution and sale of live shellfish, primarily prawn, to supply the Vigo market and its surroundings. The prawn has a great demand in Spain and in turn is very scarce, which makes the price of the domestic product to be very high. With the aim to offer the product at a more competitive price without sacrificing quality, we established a supply network to import the product from the UK where there are larger stocks and have an extensive worldwide recognition. Their vitality and quality due to the purity and low temperatures of the northern seas waters, are determining factors at the time of choosing between shellfish from other sources.

We started the operations with a staff of 4 employees, renting the majority of the resources required for the transportation as well as storage of products, depending of intermediaries in the country of origin for the purchase of shellfish.

Since then, we have grown both in market share as well as in resources, for us to become today one of the largest marketers of live prawn in Spain. Today we own a modern building located in the fishing port of Vigo, capable of storing more than 7,000 kilos of live shellfish, with rooms for cooling, freezing and cooker for shellfish. Besides this, we have prepared vivier trailers to ensure optimal transport of shellfish between the UK and Spain, thermal and refrigerated vans, for distributions to our clients and a staff of 11 permanent employees plus many others who perform temporary reinforcements during loading and unloading of trucks. The year 2015 marked a turning point for our company, with the opening of a new facility in the Isle of Skye in Scotland, that will enable us to guarantee the supply of product without having to rely on intermediaries that may affect the availability, price or quality of it.
